Cranberries are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs or trailing vines in the subgenus Oxycoccus of the genus Vaccinium. They are small, round, red berry fruits with a sour taste. Cranberries contain a prominent level of proanthocyanidins (PACs), which help to keep certain bacterial off the urinary tract (preventing urinary tract infections) and teeth (preventing gum disease). Cranberries also are rich in flavonoids, vitamin C and E. They are great as sauces, jelly, dried fruits, and juice.
