Plum is a drupes or stone fruit of the genus Prunus, a rose family. Plum is an oval fleshy fruit that is purple, reddish, or yellow when ripe and contains a flattish pointed pit. They contain phenols and flavonoids as their antioxidants and excellent source of vitamins A, C, K, B1, B2, B3, B6 and E. They also are a good source of fiber and minerals such as potassium, fluoride, phosphorous, magnesium, iron, calcium and zinc. They are eaten fresh, but also are good as pastry filling, baked goods, jams, jellies, and dried fruits.
