Elderberries are the fruit from the flowering plant known as Sambucus. They are tiny black or very dark blue round fruits (smaller than blueberry) and have a sharp sweet flavor. Elderberries contain tannin, flavonoids, viburnic acid, vitamins A, B and C. They also have a mild laxative property. They can be eaten fresh, but more popular for desserts, sauces, syrups, jams, jellies, and wine.
